Draven kicks him back before he can reach me. More of them jump out of the cold water, their eyes hollow and their hands reaching out for me. I yelp, as Draven moves fast and pushes them back with lightning speed. I should do something too. I raise my palms, and the water moves up, drowning the people moving through the lake. For a moment, their efforts are delayed. But, they are moving again. Towards me. To kill me. No matter how many times the water drowns them or Draven injures them, they keep coming. They disregard their wounds, their blood, and the fear of death as murderous intentions reign over their minds.

Dawn bled across Lake Geneva, a wash of bruised violet and sickly yellow that did nothing to warm the world. They knelt on the jetty stones, two shivering, bleeding creatures hauled from the deep, clinging to each other as if the lake itself might rise to reclaim them. I closed my eyes, as if I let my body be carried away by the current of the lake. Isn't this a dream, then why does this water still feel so tight to me. Before I could think about anything else, my hand was suddenly pulled by someone.

There were about a dozen guards, running across the black lake, which turned out to be watery and not viscous, splashing around like extra-runny mud. And it was just as chunky as mud too, it turned out. Solid bits of random shapes rose as their footsteps thundered. Kat dreaded to know what those bits were, but what she dreaded more were the ones running towards them at top speed. Calix, Thisbe, and Amicus didn't have such fears, though. Despite having come from a different battle just earlier and being heavily outnumbered, they poised their weapons and closed in for an attack.
