She slipped it into her gown’s pocket just as the door creaked open.
“Looking for something?”
Luca stood there, shoulders filling the frame, his dark eyes too sharp, too curious. Bianca’s blood turned to ice.
“I… I was looking for a book,” she lied. “Something to help me sleep.”
Luca’s lips curved, not kindly. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him. “Books don’t ease nightmares, signorina. They give them words.”
His gaze lingered on her too long, flicking briefly toward her gown’s folds, where the weight of the phone pressed against her hip. For one terrifying moment, she thought he knew.
