My hands shook. Lucy shouted again in my mind. "Let me out!" "I told you, I can’t!" I yelled back at her. "We’re going to die!" she cried. "Then so be it!" I retorted. The wolf crouched, ready to attack, snarling its teeth. And then—it jumped. But it never reached me. A blinding light burst from my chest. Lucy exploded out of me mid-air, her body glowing silver. She crashed into the wolf with full force, clawing her nails into its throat.

Slowly, Susan reached out and placed a gentle hand on Lucy's shoulder, offering a silent gesture of comfort and support.
