CHASING MONSTERS
This place creeped me out.
Mama Delphine sat in her crooked chair, stirring a pot that smelled like pepper and old stories. Her sister, Marie, sat opposite, eyes open, soul gone. Breath went in and out, but there was no one home. I wanted out of here yesterday, but all I could do was wait for Lucian and try to block out the swamp witch’s mutterings.
“The swamp gone quiet,” Mama said, voice low. “Dat mean de dead listenin’ again. When dey listenin’, somethin’ wicked fixin’ to walk.”
