Xavier’s POV “Kill her! Taste her blood!” The demon’s voice echoed in my mind, and I lost my sanity. “No!” My wolf was roaring inside my head, fighting to be heard. “She is ours to protect!” My body was at war. My muscles were tense, my tendons stretched like bowstrings, and I was sweating profusely. I had her right where I wanted to. Mira was backed against the wall, her back pressed firmly against it. She was breathing rapidly, erratically.

I was eager to read every book they brought me since I felt so full now. I looked at the books in front of me and said, “These are quite a lot, huh.” With a sigh, I picked up the first book I saw and opened it. This appears to be an old book, yet it remains in fine shape. As I look at the front page, I see the title: ‘The Bloodsuckers, Shapeshifters, and Spellcasters.’ I grabbed another heavy book, as heavy as the first one. Its title, ‘The Realm of Lunaria’, convinced me to start reading this first. To readily grasp everything, I must first learn about their realm before I can even begin to know those mysterious beings.

Chanting a few words, she lifted Elinda from the grass and disappeared with her, leaving Lucas and Anasticia rejoicing over what they had done. As all things were happening, only one person could be a great witness. A beautiful woman with black and blue-green hair had been tracking everything going on in the forest. It was not like that was her first time doing all that. She was the pack detective, secretly hired by Karen Milburn, and all the things she had been filming were sent directly to her computer systems.

SILAS The piece of shit died before I made it out of town. I threw the door open and slammed it shut, my hand gripping the edge until my knuckles turned white. “Fuck!” The roar echoed into the night, my voice raw and frayed. I kicked the front tire hard enough to send a jolt straight up my leg, but the pain wasn’t enough. Not even close. Riley was gone. Taken. By him. Orin didn’t just hunt werewolves. He made a sport of it—stalking them, breaking them, killing them. And he’d gotten Riley. My gut twisted at the thought. I squeezed my eyes shut, fingers digging into my scalp as I yanked at my hair.

She was a little harder, as witches tended to blend in the best, but she knew what to look for. The white tattoos etched on to the witches arms with powerful symbols, they were hard to see but Izzie noticed. Next was the spell bag tied onto the witch’s handbag, probably filled with herbs and crystals, and most telling of all was how the pages of the book she was reading turned without her touching them. The creatures Izzie hunted were so used to blending in with human society that not one person would notice the little discrepancies that she did. Jake slid back into the seat across from her, drawing her back into the present.

Being a girl bounty hunter had advantages, and people often underestimated me, which worked to my benefit. Perception. Things you couldn’t learn in three nights and a pile of borrowed books. I stared at the open books spread across the desk in my room, their pages crammed with terms like “Pack Coalition Charter” and “Treaty of the Eastern Packs,” my eyes blurring over with every paragraph. I couldn’t memorize alliances I didn’t understand, and I couldn’t pretend to be Elena much longer, not like this. A soft knock interrupted my spiral and Emma poked her head in. “You got a note.”
