There was a pause on his end too, then, quietly he said,
“I wondered if you’d ever call.” He said, sounding please by my call.
“I need to know what you found,” I said.
“Before the autopsy I refused. You had findings that made you request it. I need to know what they were.” I told him. There was another pause, longer. I heard him moving in the background, a door closing, the sound of a man who was choosing privacy for what came next.
“Mr. Carano,” he said carefully,
“what I found was consistent with the presence of a compound that, in elevated levels, can significantly accelerate the progression of certain cancers. In a patient already compromised...” He stopped. Started again.
