The footsteps seemed to be coming from all directions, surrounding her, closing in. Melissa tried to run, but her legs felt heavy, as if weighed down by invisible chains. Panic surged through her veins as she realized she was trapped, unable to escape. The footsteps grew louder and more frantic, echoing in her ears like a haunting melody. Just as the footsteps reached a crescendo, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Lucas, his cold eyes piercing through the darkness. Melissa's breath caught in her throat as she stared into his gaze, filled with malice and intent.

I was about returning the book when I heard a familiar voice behind me. “You just like crossing boundaries, don't you?” It was Dark. I quickly turned, looking stunned, and the book fell off. He walked towards me, picking the book and dusting it before returning it to its position. “Why are you here?” He asked. I swallowed in deeply, I never expected to encounter him in such a place as this alone. “Now you can't speak? Your mouth was moving faster than your brain, hours ago.” “I was taking a stroll to get familiar with the surroundings, then I happened to find this place.” I managed to say.

Trust. I need to earn their trust, to show them that I have surrendered. Then I heard footsteps in the dark; they were slow and a bit steady. The hair on my skin stood on end, fear enveloping me in the darkness, made worse by the fact that I didn’t even know who that person was. The footsteps came closer, louder than usual, heading right towards me. Whispers filled the darkness, my heart raced in my chest, so fast that I could hear it, and I could hear the blood flowing through my veins.

Footsteps grated softly. Near. My wolf howled. Run.

The windows fogged from the inside. Beneath my chest, the book was still open. But the last page had changed again. No words. Just one large symbol in the shape of a womb… with three drops of blood falling from it. And below that, one small line in a language I didn’t know—but somehow understood: “She who summons this blood will split the life-line and let darkness descend.” Footsteps echoed outside. Not party shoes. Not heels. But bare feet on marble. I held my breath. The door was unlocked.
