*************** CHAPTER 27 ~Damon’s POV~ The drive back to the estate was anything but smooth, even though the road stretched out like a ribbon under the early morning sun. My hands tightened around the steering wheel, frustration bubbling in me as Mars prowled in the back of my mind. “Two of Luca’s men,” he snarled, his anger intertwining with mine. “They won’t dare step foot on my territory again,” I muttered aloud, though no one could hear me.

Leonardo paused in his speech. He accessed my facial expression before going on. "It is an oath of secrecy taken, swearing not to divulge the activities of the mafia to law enforcement agencies. You won't be allowed to have unmonitored phone calls, e-mails or texts as every thing will now be monitored by the mafia. You also can't go on unsupervised trips or vacations. All your movements will be monitored and track. You shouldn't be seen with the police either. You will have to be branded as belonging to the Mafia. And the punishment if you don't sign or break any of the rules is...death"

The chains weighed me down, making me feel very immobile. Damien's orders, I assumed, I bet. The man tightened the chain around my neck until it was choking me, then forcefully tugged me forward, and I stumbled forward with him. Each time the man's fingers tugged my neck, the metal would burn into my skin. And I ask myself, when did I go from a mafia princess to a slave I had read about in history books? I was one of those people who had no freedom. No rights. No humanity. That was exactly what I had become. As I was brought out of the church, I glanced back to look at the sky above me.

DANTE’S POV Ever since I’d witnessed what my actions could cost my family, and how much damage it would cause that would take time to be cleaned up, I quit. Dear reader, you must be wondering what did I quit, well, the strong, profound and bad ass Dante Moritto quit from being a Mafia. I’d cleared all my boys by the time I’d returned from jail. Behind the cell bars, where I had no contact with the outside world and without power to protect my family from some of the messes I had created. I knew that it was time, time to call in quits. Everything, the drugs, the trafficking, the web, I closed all my accounts, the Great Dante Moritto had retired.

I grabbed my inhaler and took in two quick puffs. I couldn't panic, not now. I’ll get the job and earn money. I’ll fix this. Two waiters stood near the dark bar mixing drinks. Their voices were low, but when the music dropped, I heard them. “Security’s insane tonight,” one muttered. “Of course it is.” “Salieri invited them personally.” The first waiter looked around nervously. “You mean the Grey family?” I shifted uncomfortably. Everyone knew Salieiri and the Grey family to be the underworld masters. Even the government stayed out of their affairs.

I have spread people under my command to keep an eye on anyone who would take the direction leading to this place, starting from a safe distance. Marco Alfonso is a big name known in the big-time world. But I also have a little kingdom I rule. We are like shadows in the dark. Unseen, unknown, but definitely there. "And you picked Dominic fucking Castellano?" "I didn't choose him," I protested, my flush creeping upward to my cheeks. "I didn't even know his name. He didn't use a last name. Just Dominic. He bought me a drink, and we talked. he was friendly, cryptic. I assumed he was a traveler or an entrepreneur type. I did not inquire." Mia's jaw dropped into a pout. "Elena. You are a police officer. You read others for a living." I had thrown myself back onto the couch and groaned. "I know. I was not sane. I just. I had to not be in control once in a while. And he-he knew this. He knew me like an evil book or something."

Tony said simply. “What like the Mafia?” Said Grace shocked. “The Mafia is the Italian version, you already met Xan who is the Chinese Gang Syndicate leader and you already met the European one as well!" Tony said carefully. “Xan, that arsehole I just stared down?” Grace said and Tony nodded. "Who is the European one?” She asked quickly. Tony sighed and said “Kurt Blackwood!” There was a silence as the blood drained out of Grace’s face. She felt like someone had ripped her heart out and kicked her in the stomach at the same time.

Max replied bluntly. "And why?" "It is the Mafia capital of Italy and the home to the Napoli Licantropo Archivio della Mafia. I thought we could pay it a little visit."
