The talisman’s burn in Killian’s chest had dulled to a steady, searing throb — like someone had nailed a star into his ribs. Every beat of his heart sent waves of heat crawling down his arms, bleeding into his fingers until they tingled. The shadows inside him pressed against the invisible walls the magic had thrown up, like wolves clawing to get out. The stairwell was choked with smoke from the dying Bloodforged. Somewhere up the steps, the clash of steel and shouts of the guild fighters drifted closer — but not close enough.

I was weak because of the headache and couldn't take on the five of them at the same time if I wanted to walk home afterward. My heart thudded loudly in my chest as I continued walking and ignoring their presence, hoping that they were too stoned to notice my presence. "Hey, pretty girl." One of them called out to me. I winced at the sound, closing my eyes briefly in disappointment. I should have known I wouldn't be so lucky. I continued moving, hoping they would think I was deaf and would ignore me. No. Not such luck. I groaned as I noticed two of the guys moving toward me. I started running, knowing I couldn't take them all at once with my magic. I prayed they wouldn't chase me.

And despite knowing this, she still made me promise to fulfill her final, dying wish. Before I could even ask anything, Maggie's voice rang out, firm and unwavering. "No, I won't marry Aaron. I, Maggie Sinise, will only marry one person in this lifetime, and that's Scotty Pipes!" Her eyes, bright with longing and excitement, fixed on Scotty standing behind me. Scotty's eyes reddened with emotion. He lowered his head shyly, not daring to look at Maggie any longer. Only then did I realize that the two of them had already fallen in love a long time ago.

’ Speed’s anger briefly gave him control over my fingers, tossing the utensils I was holding and catching the attention of Migumi who got interrupted talking with Tara. ‘Do it or I will force more control over our body!’ My wolf’s threat made me squeeze my eyes shut in pressure. Why is he doing this to me?! "Migumi," I said, my voice was low and husky, my eyes locked with hers, "may I have this dance?” ***** (Author’s POV) Migumi’s lips carved into a soft smile as the gentle prince offered his hand to her. She looked into the man’s face, a hint of unwavering trust visible in her eyes.

" Mage giggled, looking under the covers at her nude body. She wiggled slightly but felt no pain. As expected, Leo had been gentle and careful not to hurt her. She wished she actually remembered what happened though. All she could remember was the club, the dance floor, and his fingers. She blushed, biting her lip. She cackled crazily and pulled the blanket over her head, snuggling back in the bed. "He loves me." she sqeaked. She giggled again, kicking her feet under the blanket. Mage believed everything Leo had said to her. She believed they had made love and that he would marry her. She thought she had finally won. Mage's world would soon come crashing down.

Loyal to the bone. “Stay close,” he said finally. “And you answer to me.” Ryder’s grin widened. “Always did.” Before anything else could be said, the air shifted. Xavier felt it before the door opened again. Magi entered without announcement, Fintan at her side, Amara just behind them. “You’re leaving,” Magi said. “Yes,” Xavier replied. “Now.” She nodded once. “Good. Because forces tied to your parents’ time are stirring.”

I didn’t doubt it, she’d had enough practice. My plan was to convince the Ogre Magi and her family of hulklings to throw in with us and help take Requbar. With their added muscle, I couldn’t see the Queen’s Guard being much of a problem. What would be a problem was getting the Magi to agree. I was sure she’d much rather hang out in the woods with her kids and play with bunnicorns.

Rian wanted to see her but like hell that was happening. "Does she know about Maggie?" "No, brother, she found the fucking door. She was able to open the door there is no doubt that she's an oracle, but why would Maggie spell a room that was for her kin?" "Really? Don't be naïve about Maggie. She wasn't as innocent as you seem to paint her." Disappointment in Rian's demeanor. "You've hidden in there for months on end sulking, so the spell doesn't affect us. Maybe it's for humans? But it's not like Evelyn is totally human, what if we put a human in there and see what happens. And not just any human, a woman that wants one of us. Maggie was the jealous type."

AURORA’S POV I couldn’t have imagined such a death even in my darkest fantasy; suspended in the air, surrounded by candles with weird fragrance. My death meant the return of someone very evil. It also meant the death of my little girl. I tried to use my magic but it was all in vain. My body was drained of all strength. Despair had taken root in my heart and had grown like Cuscuta engulfing my heart; draining it of the tiniest bit of hope that was left.

For me, that dream was vivid enough to be true. The audience gallery was more or less packed. I could see the shimmering wards spanning the whole gallery to protect everyone from a mage’s power. A voice crackled through the mic. Moran’s voice. My gaze shifted to where he stood behind a long table, presided over by several, no doubt imminent people. Among them were that man whose name I didn’t want to take, my mother, Elias and another woman and man. Judging by the man’s black hair and icy blue eyes and the woman’s sharp features, they were probably the former king and queen. My gaze shifted to my mom and Elias. Neither of them spared any glance at me. Another table was there, a little far f
