Chapter 1 Lily’s POV Goddamn it, I need at least three hundred dollars tonight or I’m completely screwed for tomorrow get-together. How do I even ask for money? I muttered the words under my breath as I sat in my gaming chair, heart already beating faster from the mix of stress and that dirty thrill I always get right before I start a show. I grabbed the bottom of my tiny black crop top and yanked it down hard, forcing the thin fabric to barely cover my nipples.

“I read a few letters of yours, and I loved it. You are good at it so why don’t you try to earn money from that?” He smiled and thought I was talking rubbish and started walking towards the kitchen. I blindly followed him. “You’re talking nonsense.” “Matt, listen to me. Let’s explore this for you. You are good, and I am sure you will get something good. Just write a beautiful short story and publish it under your name; we will talk to some editors and see what they think. I am sure it will work.” He rolled his eyes and glared at me. “It’s not possible, Aoife.”

I don’t even know what to do with the money. He also said I could have any position of my choice in any of his companies but the money has made me lazy. I guess some inspiration will come along the line. For now, I have written two stories that are getting pretty good recognition in Ghana and they are being sold in all junior high schools. This is also bringing in a lot of money that I really have no idea on what to do with all my money. As I was sipping my drink, he came and started with the same conversation. He says my dad is sick and I hope he gets well but I am just not ready to face him.

“I have some ideas for a good story..” Dawn smiled. “How about you start writing it first and I’ll give you pointers?” “Can’t I just write how I want to?” Dawn leaned back. “Actually, you can write however you want. But if you want your book to be published and be sold in stores, you have to make it really good so that when you submit your book to a publishing company, they will take an interest in it and offer a contract with you. They will give you the amount of money they think they would be able to earn from your book.”

“Dior?!” He chuckled. “That was hella big, right?” “Super!” I smiled while looking afar. “She is quite living her dreams now. I badly want to finish my studies now so I can earn and travel.” “By the way,” Rael started. “I contacted a writing agency from Singapore.” What he said caught my attention. “They are scouting Authors who can write on their platform, well, earn of course.” I blink my eyes, looking at him. “You might want to pass your manuscript? Who knows fi they will offer a contract. They are also into adaptations for movies and audiobooks, it’s your dream, right?”

While for awhile writing was my job, while I was a ''stay at home'' mum, the pay has dropped so low (Was 4 figures nearly every month, now it's barely $200, which I then have to take currency conversion into account, which means realistically, Is about £150ish) it's just not financially worth me staying home to put all my time and effort into it when I now have a proper job. When i was writing as a job, meaning A WAY TO PAY MY BILLS AND SURVIVE, i was on my laptop all day and night, writing as much as I could, often giving myself constant headaches from the bright screen, going without sleep, missing important things just to get new chapters up for you all. I’d spend hours inventing stories, scribbling them in notebooks or even on the corners of my school papers. When my dad passed away, writing became my refuge. It was my way of coping with the grief and finding a world where I could feel safe. Over time, it turned into more than just a hobby.
