Taboo Heat: Tales Too Hot To Handle
I looked up and down the street; two more were smoking, but not as much.
Then it fucking blew. I felt the rumble, the smoke pulled back into the hole, and then there was an explosion - not a bang, like fireworks, but a low, deep detonation. The manhole cover- which had to weigh over a hundred pounds - flew up into the air like a quarter flipped off your thumb.
I watched it fly up until I was looking straight at it. Smoke and flame belched from the hole as the cover, losing its energy, fell back, and, in an unbelievable coincidence, landed right back where it started.
