she said in a native tongue. "And you must be Brynne's aunt Marie?" I hesitated in case I was wrong, but really, the women in her family were stunning. I wondered again what kind of beauty Brynne's mum must be. She laughed charmingly. "You sound a little unsure there." I ushered her in and closed the door. "Not at all. I was expecting her great- aunt, you see, not her older sister. She's got her hands full in the kitchen and sent me to greet you." I held out my hand. "Ethan Blackstone. It is my very great pleasure, Aunt Marie. I hear Brynne sing your praises all the time and have looked forward to meeting you." "Oh please call me Marie," she said, taking my hand. "Quite the charmer you

Keenan led Sharlynn to a room three floors above the boardroom. "So the late mommy ran this company? With Daddy?" asked Sharlynn with great curiosity. "Before she married your daddy, Marie was already a smart career woman. She was also an architect, just like you. She loves to design unique buildings. That's why most of her clients are from overseas, especially the Middle East." Keenan continued to tell Sharlynn about the late Maria between their steps so that she could remember her mother and follow in her footsteps.

The same look she'd given me when I walked in barefoot and panicked thirty minutes ago — like I was something she'd found stuck to the bottom of her shoe. "You want me to repeat myself?" Her voice stayed perfectly level. Almost amused. "Fine. A pregnant woman. No husband. No home. No name. And within days she's living in Michael Cross's house with a full wardrobe and a made up job." She tilted her head. "Doesn't take a genius to figure out how that happened, does it?" My jaw clenched so hard it hurt. "Helen, that is ENOUGH." Marie stepped between us, both palms raised, her voice cracking through the kitchen like a whip. "I will not have this in Mr. Cross's home. Not today, not ever. Do you u

I lower my gaze to see a man's back with his head underneath her skirt. My mind has to be Playing tricks on me, I blinked. Taking a second glance, my mind wasn't playing tricks, What I see is reality. I couldn't believe it. María was here with one of my men? My Jaw Clenched as I tried to keep my rage at bay. Trying my hardest not to put a bullet in this mans back right now, Lord I wish Maria wasn't here "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN HERE" My voice boomed across the room, Marie flinched and The man raised his head from beneath her skirt.

Maria watched her face fall. "I can be that person you call when you need a little helping hand or a little raise in the spirit, but it is impossible to be your daughter. This isn't a family reunion, this is just a meeting of people who need to cut ties with the past and see life through a cheerier lens. I have no intentions of making you my mother, nor am I interested in regarding Harry as my brother. We are all just people with...flaws. People who had an unlucky beginning in life. I hope this helps you move on, Christine. You can reach me through this number anything you need company." Maria placed her complimentary card on the table before her. This was the least she could do for the woma

"Mistress Angelic had me go clothes shopping for you and I will load up this dresser if I guessed your size correctly? You are free to come and go here whenever you wish, use my services or anything you need will be here for you." I swallow down a mouthful of the protein shake. "Thank you. And-um-thank Angelic for me as well." But I don't plan on ever coming back to this place again. Too many vampires that I've come across lose their control and I'm not going to take that chance. "What is your name, by the way? I'm Brene." "Marie." She dips into a quick curtsy, then slips out of the room, leaving me alone.

PREVIOUSLY ON HEAT VOL.2... "How's Megan?" Janet asked as Marie sighed, "I honestly don't know anymore," she said as Janet furrowed her eyebrows, "What do you mean?" She asked as Marie shook her head, "She's hooked over this guy, Jake, got arrested for breaking into his house, planting cameras," she explained as Janet scoffed, "Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," she said as Marie rolled her eyes.

Amaris This is getting totally too weird! First Maxon and now Zach? What on earth is going on? From beside me, Zara glances toward Zach and then back at me, a look of shock on her face. “Zach!” she gasps. “What about Rayna! I thought—You know she has been waiting forever for you!” Zach tosses his sister a frown. “I don’t know why! I have never looked twice at her. So, whatever it is that you thought, you’re wrong.”

Like the empty feeling of not having a purse or a bag. "Am I that obvious?." She gave a strained laugh. "Only a little bit." Martha laughed too. "So Breanna, are you from Lakeside?." "Uh, no, I attend Charleston." Breanna said cautiously. "Oh." Martha nodded quickly. "Major?." "Psychology, actually…..that's how I.…" She trailed off, biting her lip. Martha nodded again. She was about to ask a follow up when Bear suddenly ran to the front door, barking loudly, rather aggressively at the someone, gaining quite an audience.

Adrian paused for a moment and asked, "What's the matter? Have you met a fake one?" Shaking her head, Marie pouted and said, "No, I didn't mean that. It's just that you're a little different from how I imagined you to be. You're so young and so handsome..." "Have you never seen me on television before?" Adrian asked. "I don't watch TV because I'm busy on the farm every day. I don't have time. And when I do have some free time, I prefer to spend it in the city shopping for new clothes. So, I've never paid much attention to what's going on with Wyvern Peak, but I have heard a lot about it…"
