In this quiet night, I can hear my own heart beat. Slowly, I took off MK's mask. MK's jaw was clearly defined, his lips were sexy and thick, and his lip shape was very heroic. Suddenly, MK's eyes opened and his broad palm pressed down on the half-unmasked mask. The deep eyes under the mask burst out cold and fierce light, such as a preying eagle, eager to devour the eyes into the abdomen. With an icy sweep of his eye, he knocked the phone from my hand to the floor. The mobile phone fell to the ground with a crisp sound.

I lowered the crowbar back to the floor and stood slowly from where I had been crouching in front of the Beetle. I watched his house to see if anyone else would be coming out, so far no one did. This was probably my only chance at getting back at the piece of shit. I pulled the zipper on my Darth Vader mask hoodie up to my neck and pulled the hoodie over my head but left my face bare. I didn't want to draw too much attention from any unsuspecting neighbours by using the mask, plus I hated the stupid eye holes that came with it.

I'd opted for a simple pair of black yoga pants, ones I'd wear when training with Mason and the ones I felt most comfortable with moving around in. I wore a vest top underneath a black oversized hoodie I had in the back of my closet, belonging to Tom, who I knew would not be attending tonight. The hood was easily tightened to cover my dark features that I now coated in the make up I would usually leave out of my evening routine.

I bet there are already people in there because I saw people taking the path to the venue. "Is it weird?" I asked. I was wearing shorts and a simple shirt, but I had a hoodie on. It's a university hoodie that I just purchased last week. It's a little bit oversized because my size was not available. I wanted a hoodie so I just bought it. But looking at it now, it does look weird because the sleeves are obviously longer than my arms. I'm not sure if my arms are just short or the sleeves are just too long. I also had a mask on, which I think is why Sean said I looked like I was avoiding the paparazzi.

The tailor has listened to our exchange, and he disappears for a few moments before returning with everything Zayden described. ‘I hear it’s a masquerade ball?’ he smiles. ‘It is indeed. Do you have masks?’ I ask him. ‘Yes, I have masks,’ he says as he retrieves a bundle for us to look through. I choose a black mask that covers all of my forehead and my nose. It covers enough of my face that no one will be able to recognize me. Zayden comes out of another room to show us his outfit. He looks amazing. ‘Alright. We will take those, and he will need boots,’ I say, looking at his bare feet.

“Are you sure that boy’s a spy, brother?” Hikaru asked. “How do we find him?” Their loud conversation by the entrance was heard all the way here. “He’s wearing a brown hooded coat with black furry lining,” Masaru replied. “The one looks like a lion.” He weaved his head in search of me among the crowd, glad I took it off earlier, or else I’d be found on the spot. “I’m certain that I’ve seen him before.”

I could be sure this girl had blue blood. On the open pages of the magazine, there was a photo showing somebody hugging a four-string guitar. The figure was wearing a dark hoodie that covered its head. That figure also wore a mask with a matching color. What could be seen from its face are only its eyes. At a glance, people might do not know whether he was male or female. But I recognized who the figure is.

My eyes scanned the street carefully before I stepped out of the alley. Then I saw it. A small roadside stall. Clothes hung loosely simple things no one would look at twice. Perfect. I walked toward it slowly, forcing myself to act normal, even though my heart was still racing wildly. “One hoodie…” I said softly, my voice barely steady. “And a nose mask.” The seller didn’t question me. Didn’t look twice. To him, I was just another customer. Good. I paid quickly, my fingers still shaking. Within seconds, I pulled the hoodie over my head.

But she'll understand. If there's one thing I know about our girl, it's that she gets me. She knows I protect what's mine. And after what she told us, there was no way I wasn't going after this motherfucker. Mason sighs, pulling a small case from his jacket pocket. "Better get it wrapped up," he says, flicking it open. The strong scent of antiseptics fills the air as he slips on a pair of gloves, carefully helping me lift my hoodie.

Elowen POV. The leather sofa in VIP Room Three still held the warmth of the last client. I could feel it through the thin crimson silk barely covering my body as I adjusted my position, making sure every angle was perfect. The jeweled mask sat secure against my face, catching the low amber light, hiding everything that mattered while showing everything that didn't. My red hair fell in waves over my bare shoulders. No brown wig or oversized cardigan swallowing my curves tonight. Tonight, I was Nyx, and Nyx didn't hide.
