Chapter 76 Amelia's Pov I had never expected to see Matilda again, but there she was, standing at the door of the pack house, her face drawn with desperation. I could see the tension in her shoulders, the weight of guilt and fear pressing down on her. I couldn’t help but feel a slight amusement stir inside me as I watched her fidget, clearly nervous and unsure of how to approach me. "Lady Tatia," Matilda began, her voice shaky, "I beg of you. Please. You have to help me. My daughter... She's in danger. I don’t know what else to do. You’re the only one who can save her."

As the sound of Jaden's footsteps fade away, Matilda collapsed against the wall, letting out a breath of frustration in it. She took the pile of paperwork and headed to her desk. She slumped in her chair, as she placed her head on the table. “What a good way to start the day” she muttered sadly to herself. Matilda rose up and finished her already cold coffee in one gulp, as her phone rang. “Yes, this Matilda Blair speaking. How can I help you?”. The coffee mug fell from her hands and broke. “What?!...No no, it can't be!” Matilda yelled over the phone, her hands trembling as she placed them over her mouth, tears welled up in her eyes.

I slumped onto the couch that sat beside my bed, rubbing the crease that was beginning to form on my forehead while my chest rose and fell in anger. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard Matilda's voice in the hallway. Matilda's voice reeked of disdain and mockery as she spoke to Veronica. Her speech was incoherent since the palace walls were built with a soundproof system. After a few minutes, the conversation died down and Matilda walked into my room, dressed in her warrior attire. I couldn't help but smile as she walked towards me, her hips swaying seductively. She always had a way of making her presence known, and I found it both thrilling and unnerving at the same time.

I dropped my keys in the foyer bowl, ready to sprint up the stairs and bury my face in a pillow. "Well, if it isn't Saint Emma." I froze. Matilda was lounging on the living room sofa, scrolling through her phone. She was wearing a silk robe that I knew she had stolen from my closet, and her nails were freshly painted a shade of red that looked exactly like the one Valerie Prescott wore. Of course. They were clones. "Hi, Matilda," I said, keeping my voice neutral. I started toward the stairs. "Mom said you were at the shelter again," she drawled, not looking up. "Did you save the puppies? Did you shovel the poop? You know they have actual employees for that, right?"

Tania's POV As I emerged from the dark confines of the dungeon, Matilda's frail form leaned heavily against me. Her face was pale, etched with exhaustion and the torment she had endured during her captivity. With each step, I supported her, guiding her towards the haven of safety that awaited us—the Pack's house. The journey seemed endless, the weight of responsibility resting upon my shoulders. Matilda's breathing was labored, a testament to her weakened state. Yet, determination fueled my every stride. The Pack's house was our destination, a sanctuary where Matilda could receive the care and support she desperately needed.

I shall never understand it. Matilda seemed determined to keep the aimless conversation with her mother going in order to avoid talking to either Tange or myself. Her sisters, the packhouse, Biance, Jackson, Diane, Corarline, her clothes that had and hadn’t arrived. The recipe books she wanted copies of, how much her father had eaten. The topics were endless until finally the clock struck ten, and I could politely remove myself and retire. My own conversation had been limited to the point of rudeness.
