We just… shared space. One afternoon, I sat under the stairs with Crumbs, away from the noise. She found me there. “You don’t talk much,” she said. I shrugged. “I like that.” She sat down beside me and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket. “You want to see something?” I nodded. She unfolded it. A drawing of a house with a red door. Stick figures. A sun in the corner. “That’s where I’m gonna live one day,” she said. “When I get out of here.”
