Maya was beautiful; it's a pity she was born as a wolf; she would have hit it big as a model. “Why her?” I asked, and Darla waved her off as a gesture that she would leave us to speak in silence. She made her way toward the inner room, leaving Pearl and me.

“Hey, Gabe. We haven’t spoken for a week, and that’s how you’re going to greet me?” According to the records, Maya Stark was twenty-two years old. She had a Master’s degree and had accomplished so much in the family business at a young age. She helped their father run the Stark Group as the COO. Gabriel rolled his eyes. “We usually run into each other at a gathering like this, Maya, and I don’t think we should meet often. I’m swamped.”

She knew there was something there between them. "Rei- Mr Dawson you're twenty eight!" Maya stressed his age "I'm only nineteen. That's nine whole years older than me. Surely you see the problem here right?" Trying with all her might to reason with him and also convince herself that this was wrong. Reid was irritated, scratch that, he was pissed. Not only did Maya keep resisting him – which no girl has ever done – but she wouldn't call him by his name and he threw caution to the wind, with the way he was treating her. Not a lot of women get to see him relinquish control but Maya wouldn’t budge and they were way past formalities now.

"Know what?" She reaches into her pocket and pulls out her phone. After a few swipes, she turns it toward me. On the screen is a photo of a beautiful woman with long dark hair and striking silver-blue eyes. She's smiling at the camera, radiant and happy. "This is Elena Rosewood," Maya says. "She was Alpha Kade's chosen mate. She died three years ago." I stare at the photo, confused about why Maya is showing me this. Then understanding hits me like a truck.

She asked expectantly and Kajal chuckled. "I'm afraid not." Maya pouted at that, looking disheartened and Kajal quickly added. "But I was actually visiting to invite you and Jay for a party." Maya frowned. "Party?" She asked and Pia clutched Maya's hand and jumped in excitement. "It's my birthday tomorrow." She announced happily and Maya gave her a big smile. "Really! That's a great news, how old will you be?" She asked. "Nine." The brown pigtailed girl announce proudly.

Nobody even knew if she was still living in California. How the hell did you manage to track her down?"

I bounced on the nearby chair and put my legs on the center table which was so unlike of a typical princess, according to mum. “I’m Maya and I’m going to make the first space ship that will be able to carry everyone in the world!” She suddenly let out, with her head up high in the air. If anything, I admired her boldness. She seemed so smart for her age. “Wow, outrageous! How old are you?” I asked her, so amused. She dropped the test tube she was holding and removed her goggles. “I'm 12, your highness. Sorry, Zara. I’ll be 13 next year,” she let out.

Maya chuckled, "That's not a problem, you are my mate, I should be able to tell you anything, shouldn't I?" Ivone smiled but still delayed before asking, "You and Reyes are twins, is that correct?" "Yes, that is correct." "Then you should be twenty three?" Maya chuckled again and nodded her head. She could already tell what Ivone was curious about and she didn't mind sharing, "Yes, that is how old I am." She turned her head so she had her eyes on Maya before she asked her next question, "Then why were you not mated at eighteen?"

She was given a mate. Then someone shouted. "Look!" Across the platform, another wrist was glowing. Maya looked up and everything stopped. Lucas Blackwood stood frozen. The exact same mark shone on his wrist. Silence filled the arena. Maya's heart pounded. Lucas. Lucas was her mate…her mate. It was no longer a daydream. Gasps spread through the crowd.
