MAYA

Chapter 1

( If you couldn't be there for the one you love, was your love fair enough?

If you count be sacrificed for the one you love, was your love, love enough? )

Can someone love someone so much to take his own life? can someone love someone so much that he is ready to leave her for her? Ash's love was the kind of love someone would consider themselves lucky to have,

but we all forget that to be lucky we have to be unlucky first; but does everyone who gets unlucky gets love or not?

Maya didn't...

Staring at the guy who just left the world for her didn't seem right to her anymore; something was breaking in her, she did not know what but something was there... breaking into tiny pieces; shattering maybe.

" A-as-ash... " She called his name but he did not answer; his closed eyes are scaring her but the chill is scaring her for the first time... the chills She was familiar with scared her at that moment.

" Maya, " She could not hold back the tears when she heard his voice; crawling away from him, her body shivering from the strong sense of cold terror that filled in her bones.

She killed him

" R-ro-Roy, " Maya breathed out but did not feel her breath back.

" he has to die, Maya, he has to die, " those words did not seem right but these are maybe true. or maybe not

" 3 hours, Maya... 3 hours, "

that was what Maya was left with, 3 hours.

" I am sorry but Maya has a brain tumor, " Maya's breath stopped when she heard the cause of her constant headaches and weakness. She was not supposed to hear this; she was supposed to sit in the waiting area for her parents but her curiosity got the best of outta her and walked sneaked into the doctor's cabin.

" Can... I mean... At which stage she is? " She heard her father say; she knew it must be the most difficult thing he has ever done in his life and why wouldn't it be?

"The second stage but we can not operate the tumor because this is deep within her brain, If we operate her the chances are - 10 percent that she will survive without any complications or it can either leave her dead or paralyzed for life, "

this cant be true! this isn't supposed to be true! this is another nightmare! wake up MAYA wake up!

She slapped herself to break this horrible nightmare but the pain was very much the evidence that her life had become a nightmare itself; a nightmare whose end is so close.

" There's another complication, sir, The tumor in Maya's head is growing abnormally fast, the kind of poison spreading in her body, I am afraid she will be on stage 3 in a few months, " this was the end of her strength; the last thing anyone would never want to hear is you are dying!

you are left with a few months.

Maya couldn't hold the weight of her body anymore; She falls to her knees as the beautiful glass vas shattered into pieces just like her hope.

" what was that voice? " the doctor and her parents walked in the direction she was hiding in; they grasped as soon as their eyes landed on Maya.

they looked at each other's faces and then at her; they knew they couldn't lie to her anymore; they can not tell her that it all was just a joke; they were just messing with her but they couldn't do that.

life was playing its joke on Maya.

" How much time have I left with? " the question from Maya shocked everyone including the doctor; they did not expect this calm and collected answer... kind of question from her.

" 4 months the most if not operated, " the doctor answered without any choice left.

4 months the most

" MAYA! " her whole body was shaking but she had no idea what was going on around her and then that happened what happens when you can't handle the pain and anger within.

She fainted

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

Maya groaned as she heard the annoying voice of the machine she was grown familiar with; She tried to open her eyes but the pain in the back of her head did not let the message reach her nervous system smoothly.

After a few more attempts; She finally opened her eyes a little only to close them again; the urge to fall back to sleep was tempting but she needed water.

blinking a few times; She finally opened her eyes to see her brother sitting across the bed; smiling faintly at her as her blurred vision made her see him.

" hey aya ( nanny ) " her brother teased; he called her ' Aaya ' instead of Maya from their childhood.

Maya sat up and drank water; her twin placed a kiss on her forehead which she wiped the next second; " don't mess, " her reply was small unlike always; she was used to fighting with him on every single thing but now as the memory of the incident came back; the dark painful feeling in her chest returned.

4 months the most

the doctor's words rang in her ears; this was painful... way more painful than one can ever describe.

" Everything will be fine, Maya, " the words felt a true lie; nothing was going to be fine again; in four months, she will be forced to leave this world; maybe for a few months, her parents and brother would shed tears for her but then what? they will get used to it and with time she will be just a photograph on the wall with flowers.

photograph with flowers symbol of death

Maya did not reply to her brother; In few moments her parents came and they took her home. Maya felt her vision blurred with tears when she laid on the bed that night; the big packet of various tablets with a glass of milk was kept on the nightstand; she was supposed to take that and sleep the night off; Everything she ever worked for seemed to go in vain.

Maya was one of the lucky students who completed graduation at the age of 19; She wanted to be a model and next week was her audition for a modeling reality show.

4 months is what I am left with

the thought was way more depressing than it read; know the best way to chop up with depression? Sleep... She took the tablets, drank half of the milk before she started to feel the medicines kicking; her head seemed to be in the effect once again; her eyelids felt heavier and heavier; she closed her eyes when the heaviness became unbearable.

and then everything went blank

What Maya hates the most?

Pity

her parents are pitting her; They pity her for the fate she has; her mother tries not to cry every time she looks at her or says something; she does not even yell at her for not cleaning the room anymore or when she drops things knowingly and dad, the ludo games are a bore now, they let her win; and her brother... he stopped teasing her.

this is what is happening for the last one month, and if she will stay here it will continue for the next 3 months as well; the gloomy look on their face will kill her even before this tumor.

" I want to go back to school, " Maya announced as they stopped eating; the surprise is evident on their face; at least a new reaction!

" I think you have forgotten you are already graduated, Maya, " her brother said the words as he took a sip of water.

" I can't stay here and go back to school is what I think will help me, " she knows, they won't be happy but they gotta live without her anyway.

" Which school? " her mother asked.

" Goa maybe, she will have fun there, " her brother spoke for her but she shook my head.

" Dehradun boarding school, arts, " Maya said and waited for their reaction.

" If you remember it's September already, will she get admission? " it is way more difficult than it sounds.

" I will handle that, we will leave tomorrow at 5 am, " her father spoke before he patted her head and walked into the kitchen to keep his plate in the sink.

it is for the best.

She told that herself when she sat in the car the next morning; enjoying the slight drizzle, Have you ever wondered what is the life span of this drizzle? some of them get to drop where they belong, the soil but many of them fall on buildings, harsh death... they get, the thing they don't deserve but still, it happens.

maybe that is the case with Maya too.

It's pouring, the car entered the school premises; the texture of the outer building looks oddly designed but odd things are what catch our attention in Arts.

" Uncle Max? " the words left her mouth in surprise when she entered the principal's office, her dad smiled at her but she can still see the sadness in them.

" Ready to be a school student again? Maya, " he said with a smile but she knows he is trying to fake it; the atmosphere is filled with tension.

" Drop it, uncle Max, I am here for the next 3 months, just let me stay in the dorm and attend classes, " she knows she is a bit... okay very much rude but she can not help it.

The smile he was trying to maintain dropped from his face and the real expression of pity appeared on his face.

what she has grown to hate.

" I am still completing all the formalities for you, you need to give the final exam, bud, " This is why her uncle Max is an optimist; he can find good in every situation but Maya? she is just the opposite.

the truth is freaking her out but she doesn't even know how to show it.

" A whole different room for you, reserved, I know you can't share with annoying little students, you graduate, " My father said as we walked towards the other building.

" you never told me Uncle Max owns this school? " she asked as she held her handbag.

" He brought it a month ago, earlier he used to work as a wise principal, " My father replied as she opened the door of the dorm room.

the ever classic room, no good color but clean with a bed in the middle and a study table and basic furniture; the good thing is it has a wide window, the sweet after smell rain leaves made her close her eyes.

"You can come back whenever you want, doesn't matter if it is been a week or a day, you know that right? " she nodded with a small smile which was hard to maintain.

" School starts in 30, your dress and everything is ready in that bag, " nodding again; she hugged her father; I need to do this, this is the right thing.

" bye dad, " she said as she waved at him when he drove off the school campus; she waved until the car was not in her view anymore. she is aware that a few students are looking at her but she does not care; Is there anything left for care?

the voice coming from her mind; she has grown familiar with it now, in the past month.

She is drenched and so are her eyes but the difference is the water in her eyes is coming from within.

this is her fate.
