My patience snapped. “That man you saw is Byron’s brother.” Her face shifted into surprise. “Wait, Byron has a brother? I didn't bother to check my phone knowing I'm probably going to have just two messages from my best friend. I must have gotten lost in the chore because the next time I looked outside, it was already dark. I heard a door open and I know that must be why I was jolted out of the work I was doing. "Dad. Mom said after I've heard them exchange pleasantries.

Fiden chimed in, breaking the tension. Pushing my gaping astonishment aside, I mustered a smile and moved to embrace each of my brothers. Confused as I was about their sudden appearance, there was no denying the joy flooding through me. It had only been a couple of weeks since we'd seen each other, and despite regular chats and FaceTimes, I missed them. Their familiar scents were comforting, transporting me momentarily back to our home, and memories of Mom and Dad. "What are you all doing here?" I asked, finally disentangling myself from Aiden's embrace. I offered them a forced smile, my mind a tumultuous mix of emotions.

“You’ve earned your reputation, River. Thank you for protecting my daughter.” River straightens, his chest puffing out slightly at the praise, yet his eyes remain keenly focused on me, scanning for any sign of distress. “I would do anything for her,” he replies, his voice low and steady. My father smiles, a warmth spreading across his features. “Then we should get to safety. There’s much to discuss, and your mother wishes to meet you… and your brothers as well.” “Brothers?” I echo, the word tumbling from my lips like a revelation. “I have brothers?” The thought is both thrilling and terrifying, the idea of siblings I never knew existing somewhere out there.
