SHATTERED AND TEMPTED
Low, cold, and vibrating with a kind of authority that made the hair on my arms stand up.
I managed to turn my head just an inch. Steve was standing by the window, his back turned to me. He looked huge against the clinical white of the room, his shoulders tight, his phone pressed to his ear.
"I don't care what he says," Steve hissed into the phone. His voice was a lethal whisper, the kind that promised blood. "Keep him there. If he tries to move, break his other leg. I’ll deal with the cleanup when I’m done here."
