Her eyes darted between me, Garrett, and the security guards. "What... what's going on here?" She saw me, froze for a second, then started sobbing even harder. "It's because of her, isn't it! You hit me for her!" Her voice rose to a shriek. The security guards exchanged glances. "I did so much for you - kept your pack stable, helped trash her reputation - and now you're hitting me over her!" Meredith was completely hysterical now. Tears and snot streamed down her face. "I stood by you when everyone criticized the awards ceremony! I defended you when the healers started leaving!"

None of them said a word, and the not-saying carried further than anything they could have. Meredith matched my pace. She didn't hover at my elbow like I might drop, and she didn't slow down to make room for a wounded man. She walked beside me like we were both simply walking, and it kept me from looking weak in front of my own pack without once making me feel handled. She had no idea how rare that was, or maybe she did. Garron was seated when we came in, chained at the wrists and ankles, beaten enough that one eye had swelled shut but sitting straight anyway.

Her vision remained blurry, tears wouldn't stop leaving her eyes. And when they did, her eyes caught a sight. Alpha Damon and Lady Burgundy were talking together. They were taking the woods direction. They were going for an evening walk. Meridith realized in sheer misery and anguish. He is taking his mother on a walk but he never cared about her. This was a painful sight and it made Meridith cry the more. She remained in her room unwilling to come out. But when night fell, a knock came on her door. She was surprised to hear it because she had warned her maids strictly not to come near her at all.

A voice that brought rage to my veins. I spun around on my seat and saw Meredith standing alongside another woman I had never seen before. This woman looked physically fit, though I could still detect some faint outlines of curves on her body. She had long ginger hair and mean grey eyes. I could also detect a strong scent from her. "Really?" I stood up and folded my arms, directing my comment at Meredith. "You're stalking me at parks now? Wasn't it enough that you got me fired?" "Apparently, it wasn't," Meredith scoffed. "Because it seems whatever seductive tactics you used on Theo worked. We aren't on speaking terms, and he has thrown me out of his bedroom."
