The mechanical storm broke through the fog layer exactly twenty minutes later. The three battalions of zinc-armored constructs didn't look like human soldiers; they were ten-foot-tall, faceless blocks of solid, industrial-grade metal, their heavy chassis painted in the sterile, matte-gray lacquer of the High Council's executive security division. Their underbelly locomotion treads left deep, screaming grooves in the white titanium rails of the lift spine, and their dual-barrel kinetic railguns were already glowing with a cold, blue electromagnetic charge that turned the pink neon haze into white static. A loud bang followed the fired bullet, and Sarah snatched the gun from Frank and aimed it back at him. Sarah had no time for anything else, as she felt the strangest commotion behind her back. Turning her head slightly on the side while gripping the gun in her hands, Sarah encountered the most unusual sight. Something she doubted any living being on the planet witnessed before. Luke was up but not on his feet. He was levitating above the ground, going higher and higher. He wasn’t doubled in pain anymore, but he didn’t seem to be conscious either. His eyes were wide opened but still looked like an abyss.

Instead, I see the charred metal bones of our mode of transport, small tendrils of smoke floating through the air, and burned grass from the heat of the flames that took it over. A shudder rolls through my spine in anger.

Just like at the target practice, I manage perfect head shots, without wasting any bullets. I don't take a moment to relax, as I know that I still have 11 men left. I continue running through the forest, until I see three men standing near a bunch of cars. I quickly take them out, then continue running for the east gate. The last men are standing in random locations. I can see Ryker and Jax unconscious on the ground. Two men are aiming their guns at their heads. I know if I'm not careful, this could end up badly for them.

She raised her other arm and held up her mace. Ragged warcries escaped the throats of the other players in their team as they finally closed the distance.
