THE REJECTION
“Can your love pay the rent? Can it buy food or basic necessities? No. I’m sorry, but I can’t keep doing this. Just leave me alone, Felix. I’m sick of all this.”
Suddenly, I felt lightheaded. My stomach turned. Something was off, really off. It wasn’t just the anger. Maybe it was the alcohol from last night. I hadn’t touched alcohol in a long time, so maybe that was it. I sat down, hoping I’d feel better.
“Together, we’ll get through this,” he said softly. “We’ll find new jobs. Life will go back to normal. You just have to trust me.”
I didn’t respond. I couldn’t. The way I was feeling… it was hard to describe. Then, the nausea hit me hard. I rushed to the bathroom and threw up.
