I smile at Derek. “We can hear you.” The girls giggle and come bursting through the door. “Merry Christmas,” they both yell while diving into our bed. “Can we open presents,” says Maliyah. “Yeah, can we? Also I’m not grounded anymore right,” asks Malayah. “The rule still stands. No more runs, it’s not safe. But no you are no longer grounded,” says Derek.

As Corey led her inside, they were instantly greeted by dozens of working elves, each of whom called out, “Merry Christmas!” which Serendipity would have found rather odd considering Christmas was over months ago were she not standing in Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole. Instead, she answered with a jolly, “Merry Christmas!” in return. She noticed, and found it rather odd, that though Corey always acknowledged the speaker, he only chose to say, “Hello,” or “Good evening,” in response, never “Merry Christmas.”

But it was worth a shot I guess. “Why won't you listen to me, I know what's best for you,” I sighed for the umpteenth time, brushing the unruly dark curls framing his forehead back and he pouted. “But I wanna do it, my teacher says it will be fun and also we get to try on costumes for the Christmas play mommy,” he says in one breath, his eyes wide in pure excitement. “Olivia and I will play sheeps in the manger,” he squealed, punching the air. I felt my heart squeeze at that, Lucien had never been this set on doing something and it killed me to be the one to take that away from him.

~Mia’s POV~ I couldn’t believe I was actually doing this. Standing in the middle of Westfield Mall dressed as a sexy elf—short green velvet dress, candy-cane striped stockings, little bell-tipped hat. This was not exactly how I’d pictured my first holiday break from college. But rent was due, my campus job had dried up, and the “Holiday Helper” gig paid stupidly well for smiling and posing with kids on Santa’s lap.

This is utterly insane. Still, another thought worms its way into my mind. If he really is Santa, maybe I should wish for something big. My stomach churns at the possibility. A Christmas wedding. The dream I’d buried long ago. I close my eyes, imagining it: twinkling lights, soft snow falling, and Elijah looking at me like I’m his entire world.

Christmas was looming, yet somehow, it didn't feel quite as festively joyful as it had other years. "I told you," I muttered, not turning around. "I'm fine. Just. it's a lot. The holidays. Everything. Hazel, the house. Your mom." Jaxon let out a deep sigh as he stepped inside and carefully closed the door behind him. "I understand. It's a lot for you." A beat later, he strolled over to where I was standing, his voice now low. "I want you to know, though, that I'm not doing this to make anything harder. I just want to give Hazel the best Christmas possible.

I asked Ace when we were out of the family sight. “You know how you missed Christmas Eve and how you miss Christmas too?” Ace opened the door to my room, “I wanted to give it to you.” My jaw dropped as I saw how beautifully decorated my room was. He had decorated the rooms with light, there was a Christmas tree and gifts under the tree. There were snacks and a projector. “It's beautiful,” I smiled as I entered the room, “Why did you do all this?” “I know I can't bring the 24th and 25th but I hope this will be okay? I also wanted to thank you for saving me,” Ace shut the door behind him.

Gil tried to protest while scratching the back of his head. “ We are supposed to come home to the Philippines this December in time for Christmas. I hope by that time the situation is better so we can have a memorable Christmas this year. We are looking forward to meeting you in person Maan and your whole family. We want to experience Christmas outside of the City. What do you think, Maan?” Gil’s Mom asked. Maan was too overwhelmed to know that they are planning to meet her and her family so she cannot form a coherent answer.

Luigi’s POV Several of us were huddled around the small TV in the common room. Since it was Christmas, we’d been given an extended period of time to hang out and watch Christmas movies. White Christmas was playing, a real classic. I was barely watching though. I kept imaging Willow and the kids. What were they doing right now? Playing with their new toys probably. Willow was probably getting the table set for their Christmas dinner. A few strands of pathetic lights were hung haphazardly around the common room, with most of the bulbs burnt out. There were rumors of a turkey dinner, but I found that hard to believe.
