Aurora crossed to the bench, letting the hush of the tree’s rustling leaves shield her from view. She lowered herself slowly, hands in her lap, posture casual to any watching eyes.
Closing her eyes, she let her breathing steady slowing, deepening. Her focus narrowed inward. Carefully, she coaxed her aura to the surface, a whisper thin veil just around her chest. It shimmered, briefly. Five seconds stable. Then it flickered as Malcolm let out a sudden giggle and Angel, perched on Mia’s hip, pointed toward a bird overhead with an excited, “ birdie!”
