It was exhausting. “Oh mommy, I will share my cookies with the boys,” she continued. “Dylan will want me to give him more but I won't this time. The other time, I gave him part of the chocolate grandpa gave me. I ate too much and my stomach started hurting.” “Your stomach,” my tiredness instantly vanished, and in its place was worried. “Since when did that start? You should have mentioned it while we were at the mall.” She laughed. “No mommy, you worry too much,” she tried to mimic Miranda. “It didn’t happen today.”

After I started college, Mom said she'd send me money in installments. "Lucia, you're an adult now. I want you to learn how to manage money, so I'll give you your living expenses in installments." I figured she meant monthly. Maybe weekly, worst case. Then move-in day came. Mom walked around the cafeteria, checked the prices, and sent $8 to my payment app. I stared at my phone. "Mom, did you send the wrong amount?" She smiled. "Silly girl. That's your lunch money for today. I checked already. Just get the cheapest grab-and-go meal. "From now on, ask me for money before each meal." I froze. So by installments, she didn't mean monthly. Or weekly. She meant one meal at a time. By da

I slapped my face gently. "What will Raj think of me know? Is he disgusted by me now? How am I going to face him? I'm so so stupid, why did I have to feel the need to throw up when I was eating with Raj! This is all your fault baby-" I slapped my stomach lightly. "-why did you do this to mummy? I won't be able to face your dad now," I cried. I was acting childish, I knew, but I didn't have any control over my emotion.

I pointed to her chips. “Yes and quit trying to change the subject” she said and continued eating. I stared at her and smiled. Oh Mirabel. What will I have done without her? I sat up and began to eat. Mirabel could tell on me to mum. Then I stopped mid bite. I suddenly had this urge to throw up. “You okay?” Mirabel asked as she passed me the water. I nodded. “I guess I was rushing—“the sudden need to throw up came again and I stood up. I rushed to the bathroom and all I had eaten all day came running out.

Grandpa and Grandma shouted, raising their hands to hit Mom. But Mom dodged their blows easily, and with a swift, sharp motion, she slapped Denise across the face. "Go on, hit me. Every time you touch me, I'll hit her." Without hesitation, Mom grabbed Denise by the hair and slammed her head to the floor. "You piece of trash! Did you enjoy feeding off my pain, making your life better at my expense? You think you've ruined me, don't you? But guess what? I'm not afraid of you, Denise. I'll make sure everyone knows exactly who you are—a wretched rat."

My hands fly to my mouth, and I begin wiping my lips vigorously. “No,” I whisper. “Yes,” my brain replies helpfully. “No….no, no, no, no….” And then….Oh no. No no no no no. Another memory crashes in. And it's worse than the previous one. So much worse. My stomach drops. I freeze, then my eyes widen slowly as it fully dawns on me. I close my eyes now. “Please no.” But it’s already there clear and undeniable. “I threw up….” I pause for a while, allow it to sink in. “...on him.”

he barked so horrendously that I jumped. I watched as he strode past me, cringing at himself in disgust as he shook his slimy hand. I burped softly, waiting for Mom's response. "You threw up on him, Sofia. Are you fucking insane?" she literally yelled, walking towards me with disapproval evident in her eyes and voice. Her disapproval made me even sicker, pushing me to stumble towards the closest bathroom and fully throw up in the toilet. Once I felt better, I flushed the toilet and thoroughly rinsed my mouth with running water to get rid of the disgusting bitter taste in my mouth. Great. Now I really felt sick and my temperature was rising.

I smiled, "That's what I love to hear." I woke the next morning with the immediate urge to throw up. I had to toss Aidinth's arm off of me, then run to the bathroom. Aidinth followed me, and held my hair back, as I threw up. I mentally sighed, "Okay, children, be nice to mommy." Aidinth groaned, "These kids are going to cause you problems, aren't they?" I chuckled, "But it will be worth it after they're born." I stood up and went to the sink. I brushed my teeth and went back to the bedroom where Aidinth is. He asked, "I guess you're not feeling up for having breakfast?" I smiled, "Actually, I could really use some breakfast. Throwing up made my stomach feel better. My grandma always told me
