Lia joked with a smile, bringing me back to the light reality. I laughed at her joke. “Who knows, he might become a chef here,” I replied with a smile. Even though I was still feeling tired and sore, that simple humor brightened my mood. Our laughter filled the small space of the apartment, and for a moment, all the burdens I had felt seemed to evaporate. I watched Mona and Lia devour Mark’s food, and it felt so good to share this moment with them. “If you guys keep enjoying this food, I might have to tell Mark to bring food every day,” Mona said, adding to the spirit of our conversation.
