The silver light erupted from my palms, forming into a high-energy barrier that deflected a hail of arrows and hurled the front line backward like toys in a storm. The battle for the Iron Pass had begun. And the Blood Moon pack was about to learn that they weren't fighting an army. They were fighting an extinction event.

Eclipse has been with me from the start, and I could handle things if I weren’t around. Heading downstairs, I found Eclipse leaning against a wall with his eyes closed. Zydan was sitting at the conference table, looking at his phone. When Zydan didn’t seem to notice I came down the stairs, I quietly moved to stand beside Eclipse. “Don’t move.” I warned Eclipse by using our mind link. “Did you know about the super blue blood moon?” “Isn’t that supposed to happen next month?” Eclipse responded through the mind link without moving from his position. “It is tonight.”

The full moon hung high in the sky, its silver light casting an ethereal glow over the pack grounds. The night felt different now, heavier, as if the weight of what had been left unsaid between her and Kael was now a tangible force in the air. Leora couldn’t escape the feeling, not when every step she took felt like it was leading her closer to something that was both terrifying and inevitable. I looked at the moon and prayed to the moon goddess Selene, the goddess of wolves, to hold and help Lory cope with her emotions, to help her understand that we didn't wish her harm, and that she belonged here. I don't know why such trials were placed on Lory's path, but I know there must be specific reasons for it. Selene doesn't make mistakes; she has her reasons for her actions.
