A stirring of something ancient and primal. The full moon was rising, and I could feel its power calling to me. I was a werewolf, and I had done something. Something terrible. But what? As the moon rose higher in the sky, I felt my body begin to change. My senses grew sharper, my muscles stronger. And then, everything went black again. When I came to, I was standing in the middle of a forest, surrounded by trees that seemed to stretch up to the sky. The moon was still rising, casting a silver glow over everything.

she said, her irritation fading into a smile as she grabbed her slides and took one last look in the mirror. The soft glow of her bedroom lanterns reflected off her ash-blonde hair, which she had twisted into a perfect, messy bun, with short curls framing her round face. Her pale purple eyes sparkled, flecked with hints of silver—a distinct mark of being Moon-Kissed. Soon, she thought, her mate would see her as she saw herself: beautiful, unique, a prize worthy of any Alpha’s daughter.

We don't retreat. We sharpen. And somewhere underneath all the sarcasm and fake escape plans, something inside me shifts anyway. The moon hangs pale outside my bedroom window. Tomorrow it'll be full. Tomorrow somebody will probably get bonded whether they like it or not. Tomorrow half the wolves in the territory will lose their minds. I close my eyes slowly. "Let the moon do its worst," I whisper. Because if there's going to be madness tomorrow— it won't just belong to the moon.

It was a massive, silver-white orb that lacked the iridescent glow of the Lunar Council’s authority. It was flat, matte, and terrifyingly silent. For a wolf, the world was defined by its scent—the smell of rain, the musk of the pack, the iron of blood. But this new celestial body was a void in the sensory world. It was a "Dead Moon." It had no scent. It didn't even have a shadow. It was a cataract over the eye of the universe, and as it descended, the vibrant colors of the Silver Peaks began to fade.

"Ronan! Target the center boulder on the upper shelf! Spears on my mark!" "Brace!" Ronan yelled, six of his strongest Moonridge warriors stepping forward, their heavy, silver-tipped spears balanced over their shoulders. "Launch!" The weapons flew through the howling wind, striking the frost-cracked stone with a deafening crack. The ancient boulder splintered, the structural integrity of the upper ledge vanishing in a single heartbeat. A massive wave of snow, ice, and heavy stone came cascading down, burying the first line of Blood Moon archers before they could release their strings.

I wait til I hear feel the cold air drifting into the kitchen and the soft sound of a door closing before glancing into the hallway again. Through the doors glass I could see Embers back to me. The left side of her body was eliminated white from the moon and her hair looked like silver threads as they hung down her back. Creeping towards the door she shifts and a second later a see a silvery gold wolf dashing across the snow, her body low as she ran.

Kael replied. “Helpful explanation.” He gave her a small smile. “They tell the story of the Twenty Moons.” Luna ran her fingers across one of the glowing carvings. The moment she touched it, a powerful wave of energy rushed through her. Her vision exploded with light. Suddenly she wasn’t standing in the stone circle anymore. She was somewhere else. A massive sky stretched above her. Twenty enormous moons filled the darkness, glowing in different colors—silver, blue, violet, gold.
