A Night In Daddy's Bed
I raised my arm and hailed a cab.
The desk sergeant at Holborn Police Station was pink-faced and freshly shaven, his thinning hair slicked carefully over a bald patch. He leaned heavily on the counter, dunking biscuits into a mug of tea, scattering crumbs across the ample chest of a Page Three girl in his newspaper. As I pushed through the glass door, he licked his fingers clean, wiped them down the front of his shirt, and slid the paper discreetly out of sight beneath the counter. He smiled at me, his cheeks wobbling slightly.
I showed him my business card and asked if I might see the charge sheet for Bobby Moran. The smile faded almost instantly.
