I twisted, writhed, every muscle fighting, but he only tightened his grip, dragging me against his chest, his breath hot and sour in my ear.
“Don’t touch them!” I screamed, frantic now, my voice cracking under the weight of terror. “Please… I’ll do whatever you want, just… just leave them alone!”
He chuckled, the sound vibrating through my skull. His lips hovered near my ear, his words deliberate, cruel. “That’s for your mother to decide, sweetheart.”
The name hit me like a blow. My body recoiled violently, stomach twisting. My mother. The monster who had sold me out, who dangled my siblings like puppets on strings. Just hearing her name made bile rise in my throat.
