Not a single thing was out of place. I started searching. I looked through drawers, under piles of papers, behind the thick books. Nothing. Not a single red file. My heart sank. Then I heard a weird sound—the faint click of a door handle. My whole body froze. Someone was coming in. I looked around quickly and saw a large curtain near the bookshelf. Without thinking, I slipped behind it, holding my breath. The door opened, and I heard the deep, calm voice I dreaded most. “Yeah,” Mr. Malcolm said into his phone as he stepped in. “The delivery was successful. Everything went smoothly across the border. I handled the shipment myself this time.”

Malcolm’s smile grew wider at our varied replies, and I found myself wishing that the ground would open up and swallow me. I mean, I could count on one hand the number of people I’d heard of who had had their grandparents watch them practically get mauled by their partners, and it wouldn’t go beyond a single finger: Me. “I’ll have to take that as my cue to leave then,” Malcolm continued after a little while had gone by, as he glanced from Hector to me. “Leave you two to catch up for a bit…” He trailed off after a bit, standing there awkwardly as he shuffled from one foot to another, almost hesitantly. Then it clicked.

This won’t harm me, but I hate the way it feels. I’m also filled with fierce pride. They’re scared, and they should be. The one’s waiting for them are far more frightening than I am. Malcolm steps in front of me, smirking like he’s already won. “You make one move to warn your little friends,” he says softly, “and I’ll put a bullet in your demon before you can blink.”

Noah frowned, reluctantly standing up on his feet. “I'll see you guys out.” Mom offered, leading them out of the room. Just after they left, I turned to face Malcolm. I've actually been looking for a moment with just the both of us together, I had something to ask him. About his sister, he was getting her out. “Is Millie out?” I asked curiously as he shook his head. “No.” He rose to his feet as he came to stand beside me, wrapping his hands on my shoulders. “I'll go get her tomorrow. She's so eager to see the babies.” Malcolm informed me as I forced out a smile. I still didn't trust her. An unrepentant murderer wouldn't just turn good in months.

I knew that the show was just about to start. As expected, Gary was the first one to open his filthy mouth. "So, have you thought about it? It's just giving birth to a baby. It's an easy thing to do. Why are you taking so long to think about it? "If you don't agree to it, I won't let you off easy. This is a warning!" Gary glared at me with a menacing look, as if he would slap me across the floor if I dared to reject him. Drake shook his hand and interrupted Gary. Then, he smiled softly as he looked at me through his glasses, "Janice, you don't have to overthink things. It's quite simple, actually.
