She turned to Liam, who was at a booth in the back corner. Sitting beside him was an older woman, dressed like this were a business meeting. Suit, slacks, and dress shoes. Elaine suddenly felt very underdressed in her jeans and sweater.
She walked over to Liam, leaning over to whisper. “What is going on?”
“You’ll find out in a second,” he replied, then louder, “This is Mrs. Bennett.”
“Oh, please, call me Nancy,” the woman said and stood up, offering her hand to Elaine. Elaine took it. Nancy had dark hair, though signs of age around her eyes and mouth. She carried herself like a woman who knew her worth.
