She stood, turned, and glanced at the uniform.
“Looks like you weren't fired.”
“Nope. You're stuck with me for a while.” William said, putting on his helmet.
“I don't mind.” She handed him a small slip of paper with an address written on it.
“Did Michelle come to work today?” William asked, pocketing the note.
“Yes, she is at the counter. Now off you go.”
William swung onto the scooter, started the engine and pulled away.
He rode across the town until he reached a red light and rolled to a stop. He tapped his fingers absently against the handlebar, waiting. Then something made him glance to his left… instinct, maybe, or just boredom.. and his breath caught in his throat.
