A smile spreads across my face as I pull my hand away from his chest to see the difference in the brand that Lucern’s addition has made. The familiar flaming pentragram catches my eyes first, the swirling lightning flashing magically the longer that I look at it. Inside of the circle is the same moon that represents my Lycan King, but now instead of the bright color it was before, it is a light shade of red, with a dark border as dark as blood, with blood dripping from the top in lazy movements.

My heart broke a little at that thought. He was my mate. More than that, he was my Fated Mate. He wouldn’t do something like that, surely. He didn’t need the power or influence. He was the Lycan King. The lands he held under his rule were vast. Why then? Why did he mark me outside of the ceremony we were supposed to have? And why did he mark me in front of that evil piece of shit? He all but refused the first time we were really together, using the marking ceremony as the reason for holding back.
