Mutual Pining Novels & Stories

I opened the document, hoping it would anchor me. It backfired. The section on blended families and hidden power imbalances hit like a punch to the gut. “New romantic partners often create complex emotional triangles,” the text read. “Secret tensions, loyalty conflicts, and unspoken attractions can destabilize existing structures.” Case studies detailed step-relations where attraction crossed forbidden lines, leading to guilt, secrecy, and fractured trust. My stomach twisted. Every word mirrored my reality. Marcus wasn’t just Mom’s fiancé anymore, he was the man who had pinned me down and made me come while calling me his. I slammed the laptop shut, breathing hard.

I responded, just as his fingers found my nipple and began pinching them, making me gasp each time he did it. “Our mating ceremony is in two days and although the pack members have accepted you as their luna, some are still unwilling to come to terms with it but then Blackwood pack will not be ruled by the decision of a few people.” “Ohhhh,” “Now, I think I deserve my dinner, gattino,” he spun me around to face him and tried leaning in for a kiss but I stopped him.

“It’s called ‘pining’, the feeling you have now where you miss him. Your soul now knows its other half is out there and nearby and you will constantly feel an ache, a hunger for what is rightfully yours.” “How do you know how I am feeling, Ivan? I don’t even understand it myself.” I watch as pain flares up in his eyes and an instinctive need to comfort him rises inside me. “I know because I am pining for my fated mate too, and I know she is pining for me. I just hope she realises soon that she wants me and that I will love her and take care of her, otherwise I am doomed to a lifetime of feeling incomplete without her.”

Banishment severs your connection to other shifters, without that connection your wolf goes almost feral at times, it also has no discipline without an alpha. My mother was killed in a rogue attack on our pack when I was thirteen. Sometimes rogues team up to take what it is they require to become a pack again and form that connection, an alpha pup, which is what happened in our pack. Alpha Avenix was pregnant with Lina when they attacked. I guess the plan was to take her during her pregnancy, when she was most vulnerable, so they would have the pup from birth. But we weren't as unprepared as they thought we would be.

He was just the center of a toxic orbit, a sun that was starting to burn out. Phineas looked down at his hands. Lucian’s blood had dried in the creases of his palms, a dark, permanent stain. He felt the bond pulsing, a heavy, suffocating cord that tied him to the man bleeding in the chair next to him. It wasn't love. It wasn't even hate anymore. It was "Mutual Destruction." "We’re all going to burn, aren't we?" Phineas whispered. Lucian reached out, his bloody fingers tangling with Phineas’s. "Then we burn together, Little King. I’ll keep the fire going as long as you’re breathing."

He chuckled at the frustrated groan of arousal from his mate as he went. They were one another's second chance, but it didn’t diminish the fire between them. They had contracted a surrogate six years ago, and having their daughter, Hope, was not a dream in their life. They still found time to keep their love and spark alive, despite their responsibilities. Little things like bringing his mate coffee, rubbing his tired shoulders, and leaving post-it notes around were the things that Pine thrived on. Robbie always made it a point to let Pine know his mate and their daughter love him.

I hate being around them and their fake sympathies. Always the... "Oh, you poor girl." "You are so beautiful, if only you could talk." "Too bad, you can't talk." "How are you getting along with the rest of the world?" "Have you been well? Is there any hope of your voice coming back?" "Have you ever thought of using herbs to recover your voice?" "Were you born mute?" And the "are you sure, she isn't deaf too." Whenever they think I'm not listening or paying attention to them. If I received money whenever someone fakes their pity for me, I would probably be the richest person in the village.

Pining for someone else's leftovers. It wasn't just the malice in her tone that had left me reeling; it was the unsettling truth that lingered beneath her jabs. Pining for someone else's leftovers. The phrase echoed in my mind, taunting me with its cruel accuracy. I thought back to all the times Kai had spoken about Mabel, and I couldn't help but wonder if he still had feelings for her. Probably, I thought, my mind racing with doubts. Maybe he's only with me because he can't have her back.
