He was sobbing freely, now, and I walked over to him softly, not wanting to startle him or agitate him further.
“It’s okay,” I soothed, rubbing circles against his back, as it shuddered and heaved with his sobs. “Can you tell me your name?” I asked, once he’d begun to quieten down.
“It’s – it’s Miles,” he said, and his voice sounded thick and clumsy with tears. He swallowed heavily. “I’m the Young Alpha of the White Elm pack. Well – I was,” he sniffed, and I frowned down at him, confused.
