Mother? Technically, I guess you could call her that, but I wasn't sure I'd ever referred to her as mom. She was my stepmom, but she never treated me like I wasn't family. She didn't seem to mind the title anyway. She'd always been Vienna to me, but hearing her call herself my mother lit up something in me. If my real mum didn't love me, at least I had Vienna to fill her place. “I’m protecting her.” Zander’s voice dropped into a dangerous rumble, pulling me back to the present. Another beat of tense silence followed , then Vienna spoke again, her voice lower now, colder.

Today was my father's wedding day. When I got off the plane in my princess dress, the first person I saw was a charismatic woman who stood out from the crowd. It was Brenda Sanders, who would soon be my stepmother. My father had chosen not to remarry all these years because of me. I was very happy for him when he finally met someone he liked. Everyone said that she was a renowned sculptor. Her work was beautiful and gentle, just like how she looked.

Now, in the next breath, he was spewing venom, calling me unspeakable things, accusing me of something unforgivable. I covered Eve's ears and pulled her close, while Ryan stood firm in front of me, taking the brunt of Roy's hatred. And in that moment, something in me became clear. I had not done anything wrong. Ryan had not done anything wrong. I had every right to seek happiness. I stepped forward and took Ryan's hand in mine. Looking Roy straight in the eye, I said, "You were the one who abandoned me and our daughter. You have no right to stand here and shout at us. Since you never wanted to call me your wife, you can call me your stepmother now."

“Leave this pack. Disappear. Give up my precious Luna title. What would you do, Alpha?” He turned to me fast. His eyes were blades. “I’ll hurt your mother.” It hit me like a whip. I stepped back. “What?” “Yeah. She’s my stepmother. You know that. If you walk away from your role, if you run from your responsibility. I won’t hesitate to strike where it hurts most.” I laughed. Cold. Hollow. My voice echoed in our quiet room. “So low,” I muttered. “Then what if I take my mom with me? Sneak her out. Leave no trace.”

“Damien wouldn’t do that!” “You call your stepfather by his name. Interesting.” He was doing it again, giving her those looks that suggested he knew far more than she did. She felt as if she were stark naked in front of him, to be observed and studied. “Now that I think about it, your relationship seems a whole lot better than I was made to believe. Aaron wouldn’t shut up about how shitty your relationship with the bloodsucker is—a pity story, if you ask me.”

“Still not following.” I groaned and buried my face in my pillow this time, my voice muffled as I yelled into it. “I’m fucking my stepbrother for christ sake! My mother is off in paradise, talking about snorkeling and couple massages and throwing parties, and meanwhile, I’m over here defiling the family tree!” Ethan chuckled under his breath like this was some kind of sitcom and not a moral crisis. “Defiling the family tree,” he repeated, grinning. “Dramatic, even for you.”

I scream at the screen of my system, interrupting him from going further, giving him my "You gotta be shitting me look" with my swollen eyes and messed up hair. Dad face palms, then sighs.

School got me busy and I had very little time for writing or even social media. But now I’m back. I already completed Crave if anyone is also waiting for that, and some of you might have not seen the note there, but I’ll complete my stepbrother this June. I’m already rereading the chapters to get familiar with the plot again and it’s been written. Once I have enough chapters that won’t leave you hanging in between (which is very soon. Today is a Christmas party in her school and also her school vacation starts from today. “Mammy, I have made this,” She said, giving me her drawing card. “Why this card,” I asked. “Maestro asked us to make a family diagram and the best drawing will take place on a Christmas tree,” She said happily, showing the picture. I opened the card and saw her amazing painting. She has different levels of craze for painting. She has drawn me in the center beside a shadow, and I know what it means. She draws herself to the right side of the shadow, interlocking fingers with him and another side, Jonathan sitting in a wheelchair.

He extended his slender arm, lifting her up. Suddenly, she found herself immersed in a embrace full of masculine charm, listening to the powerful and resolute heartbeat from Lorneauxs' chest, over and over again, as if enticing her. Unconsciously, a blush spread across Claire's cheeks. Clutching her small hands tightly, Claire closed her eyes in pain, making an effort to endure, so as not to lose control and grasp Lorneauxs' neck. He was her stepfather's son, her big brother; she couldn't cross that line.
