I accepted it gracefully, relishing the fruits of my hard work.
Suddenly, the doors burst open. Serena entered, with none other than Quinn by her side.
“Sophia, you’ve worked hard this past year!” Serena greeted me with a faint smile, one that lacked warmth.
Time dulled even the strongest bonds, and Quinn must have spent the past year feeding her grievances into my mother-in-law’s ear.
I set down my wine glass and approached them with a welcoming expression.
“Mom, what brings you here tonight?”
“Why? Am I not allowed to come?” Serena’s tone was indifferent as she raised her glass to toast a business partner.
