I looked through the open window at Nate, waiting for him to look angry, or hurt, or annoyed.
For a single, terrifying split-second, I saw something dark, cold, and razor-sharp flash deep inside Nate’s eyes. It wasn't the warm, sweet boy who had handed me a chocolate bar or a VVIP ticket. It was a chilling look that made the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up.
But just as fast as it appeared, it vanished.
Nate blinked, his warm, friendly smile instantly returning as if nothing had happened at all. He shook his head, letting out an easy, forgiving laugh.
