I traced the source and picked up the book; it was a scented, linen-bound, and hand-stitched notebook.
I was about to open it up when Rex snatched it out of my hands.
"What are you doing?" he asked while I picked up the remaining books scattered on the floor.
"Nothing, just trying to help," I said, quickly handing the books over to him.
"The notebook is beautiful; where did you get it from?" I asked him.
"Thank you; I got it from a bookstore downtown, he replied.
"Oh, I will see you later." I hurriedly left the room. Wondering if I was mistaken, I pulled open the door and rushed to my bed. I lifted the mattress, and there were envelopes carefully hidden.
