Three suited men entered the police cell, their faces stern and unyielding. I knew instinctively who they were. They parted to allow an older Italian man to step forward, his eyes locking onto me with disdain. When his gaze shifted to Nicky, she sprang to her feet, forcing a weak smile.
"Dad, it's my fault," Nicky said softly, her voice laced with deference.
The man's expression darkened, and he walked towards her. Without warning, he slapped her with a force that sent her stumbling backward into me.
