Aurora's POV The morning mist in this town always lifted slowly. I pushed open the wooden window on the second floor of the bookstore, and air tinged with the scent of grass rushed in. In this damp weather, my leg would ache a little more sharply. But it was still within what I could bear. From downstairs came the sounds of Nicolai arranging books, along with country music drifting from the old radio. It felt as though my life had been set to slow motion, every frame clear yet utterly mundane. I had long since put Leonardo's visit and the journal he had returned out of my mind. The journal, too, remained unopened.

Every step I take exuding a quiet confidence that commands attention. Peeta opens the door for me as I step in and the room is filled with the Japanese, their gazes fixed on me as I enter. I take a moment to soak in the atmosphere as I gracefully take my seat at the table, my eyes scanning the room, meeting each gaze with a calm yet knowing look. I smile to myself, confident that whatever the reason, I'm not leaving here without a sealing handshake. It's me, Nadia, formidable and unbeatable.

“Where’s my son? I haven;t seen him for a while now.” “He had some business to discuss with some of his friends. They must be at the other side of the estate. Or the garage.” She eyed Naya again, the disdain clearly shown on her face, then she walked away. When she was sure that she was gone, Naya went back into the study, but just as she wanted to shut the door, something fell from the shelf to the floor, and she rushed to it. It was a book that had been knocked down, but then her eyes went back to the file, and she pressed her lips together so she would not make a sound.

NINA “Why are you doing this!!” “Because Sokolov made my sister’s and my life hell!! Do you know what kind of blood runs through your husband’s veins!” She screamed, her voice no longer amused but dripping with poison, “He’s the product of rape! His father raped my sister again and again to have his heirs. And that wasn’t enough. He raped me too when I came to visit her! And when I got pregnant he locked me in these very cells and took my daughter from me to kill her just because she wasn’t a boy!”

“He likes to see everything when he walks in. Makes him hard instantly.” Nina’s sob caught in her throat. She hooked her thumbs into the waistband of the little cotton shorts she slept in and let them drop. No underwear beneath. A neat, trimmed patch of dark curls, already glistening. The scent of her arousal mixed with Rita’s fever-sweat and filled the room like incense. Rita inhaled greedily. “Fuck, look at you. He’s going to lose his mind.” Nina climbed onto the bed as if it were a scaffold. The mattress dipped under her knees. She lay on her back beside her sister, arms stiff at her sides, thighs pressed together so tightly the muscles trembled.

COLLIN POV. I was about to leave when I felt Nayla’s hand gently hold mine, stopping me from moving. “Wait,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she stared at me with her alluring hazel-green eyes. The most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. “Yes, dear,” I said, turning fully to face her. “Thank you so much. I don’t know what I would have done without you.
