We found a quiet bench a few blocks away from the club, and Katastrophe collapsed into it, burying her face in her hands.
“Bess, please talk to me,” I begged softly, sliding beside her. “What’s going on? Why are you like this?”
She sniffled and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. “It’s... everything. Work is a nightmare. Justin’s been on my case, and I just feel so alone.”
My heart twisted painfully. “You’re not alone. We’re here for you. You don’t have to go through this by yourself.”
Katastrophe looked up at me, her eyes red and shining. “It’s just easier to forget, even if only for a little while.”
