By the time I made it back to the kitchen, the sky outside had shifted into that soft, burnt orange color that meant sunset was creeping in.
Dinner.

I grabbed a pack of Buldak noodles from the cupboard, boiled some water, and tossed them in. The spice hit my nose the second I opened the seasoning packet, but I didn’t care. Honestly, the burn felt kind of fitting.
While the noodles cooked, I poured Lily a small bowl of her favorite peanut butter treats. She trotted over, tail going a mile a minute, crunching happily while I stirred my noodles and let the steam fog up my glasses.
