"Sure. I'll give it a try." Her eyes lit up. Soon, she pressed her lips together, nodded, and stepped back to the counter. I took a sip, and it felt like warmth had finally settled into a part of me that had stayed cold for a very long time. Just then, my phone buzzed. I glanced at it; the publisher's editor had sent over a draft cover for my new book. The cover featured a gradually brightening deep blue expanse, with the title "Crossing" printed across it.

"ASHES TO EMPIRE: Breaking Free from a Legacy of Violence" By Jaxon and Isla Winters. We each took a copy. Held it. Felt the weight of it. "We wrote a book," I whispered. "We really did." The cover was beautiful. Simple. Powerful. Dark background. Our title in bold letters. A phoenix rising from ashes. Perfect. We sat on the couch and read it. Cover to cover. Every word we'd written. Every truth we'd exposed. Every moment of pain and healing. It was surreal seeing it in print.

I scanned the shelves, my eyes tracing the titles and covers in search of the perfect book to momentarily distract me from the reality of my mother's illness. A vibrant book cover caught my attention, a beautiful couple locked in a passionate embrace against a backdrop of rolling hills and a setting sun. "Love's Everlasting Promise" was emblazoned across the top in elegant script. I knew, in that moment, that this was the book that would temporarily fill the void in my heart.

Someone had not wanted the title visible. Clara pulled it out. The cover was dark leather, undecorated, with no text on the outside. She opened it to the title page. On the Recording of Iterative Experience: A Practitioner's Account. No author listed. No date of publication. The paper was old but not fragile, the kind of old that suggested it had been made to last. She read the first page standing up, alert for other people in this section of the library.

Politics, Power, Business, History and many more. Boring. Boring man. I continued tracing the spines with my fingers, liking the texture beneath my fingertips. At some point, I completely forgot about the journal. I pulled out one of the books. It had a rare cover I had never seen before. “Pride and Prejudice.” What? I checked the cover again. Maybe I had read it wrong. Or maybe it was another Pride and Prejudice. But no. It was the same book, only with a different cover. This one had a black hard cover with the title engraved into it alongside the author’s name.

It took him an hour to figure out how it works hahaha. He soon turned the book over to check it's title. On the cover, among the pretty colorful gems and butterfly designs is a title of bold golden letters that brought a sudden shiver to his body. 🌹Ruby and Aurelius🌹

He turned the book to the first page;. …Strange. It was blank. So also the second and third pages. His brows crumpled as he persisted to turn the pages, only to meet the same thing. The book was blank. And the other strange part was the text written in red on the book cover, it was also missing. So also the author's name. Roman sat up on his bed in awe. He almost had a scare as he watched each letter of the book's name disappear from the book cover. This was insane.

No one had heard from him since. She thought about the book; Nicole's curiosity got the better of her. She rummaged through her bag, searching for the book, and finally, her fingers closed around it. She pulled it out, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. The cover was simple, with just the title, "Eternal Devotion," embossed on the front. Nicole ran her fingers over the cover, feeling a sense of connection to Gage. She opened the book, and the pages crackled as she turned to the author note.

The cover really surprised me because it was only one golden embedded word written on it and that scared the heavens out of me. The cover spelled out, 'DANGER'.

Amelia's pov. Just as I requested, the novels were brought for me. I was glad that she did as she promised, and immediately she brought she novel, she packed the trey away. My eyes lingered on the cover, and I used my fingers to trail it as I stared at what the cover showed. A gasp left my lips, and I sighed, opening to the first page which told me it was an erotical book. Pressing my lips together, I sighed wanting to hide everything I was feeling. My heart was pumping hard, and at the first sight, my eyes couldn't stop darting around the lettered lines.
