They glared at each other across the table, and Kira whispered to Iris: “Twenty gold says they either kill each other or make out within the week.”
“That’s not a bet, that’s a guarantee,” Iris whispered back.
The search parties found the nightmare seeds by midday.
They were planted in a circle around the fortress, hidden in patches of seemingly normal vegetation. Black as midnight, pulsing with sickly green light, already grown into small plants that released barely visible spores into the air.
“Burn them,” Dorian ordered. “All of them. Salt the earth afterward.”
“My lord.” One of the scouts approached, his expression grim. “There’s something else.”
