Chapter 14: The Final Draft The big cathedral had high ceilings that made Silas's footsteps sound quiet as he walked up to the altar. The light from his flashlight moved around on the marble like a big spotlight. Julian stood still keeping Elena safe behind him and his hand slowly moved towards the wires he had been working on. "You are so predictable, Julian " Silas said, his voice sounding scary and empty. "The hero always comes back to save the day.. You are not the hero today. You are the boss who could not handle the lies you told."

The severed head of Alpha Silas lay in the grey slush, a grisly testament to the death of the old world. The clearing still carried the faint scent of sage and cypress smoke. Where Marais’s bier had burned now lay only blackened ash, scattered petals, and melted candles. Silas knelt in the center, his carved ashwood staff resting across his knees. His fingers traced the damp earth as he murmured soft, ancient prayers—hoping Marais’s soul had found peace. Behind him, Jonah stood rigid, arms crossed tightly over his chest. His face was pale, streaked with tears that refused to dry. “She’d be proud of you,” Silas said gently, without turning.

“But tell them this: If they ever move toward the North Coast again, I won’t just burn a book. I’ll burn the entire market. I’ll leak every offshore account, every shell company, and every hidden villa. I’m an Ares, Silas. I know how to destroy a world better than anyone.” Silas stared at me for a long moment, a ghost of respect flickering in his eyes.
