I didn't look back as I reached the heavy oak doors, but I could feel his gaze burning into my spine. Silas Sterling was standing alone in his sanctuary, completely paralyzed by the horrifying realization that he hadn't just lost a wife. He had lost a queen he never bothered to crown.

Silas cut him off, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that rattled the crystal chandeliers overhead. Silas didn't stop marching. I furrowed my brow, and with another blink, his gaze turned cold again. “Step away if you don't want this to fall over you,” he warned coldly. My lips parted, and I quickly moved away from the tree. My throat tightened as I recalled his gaze from earlier. His eyes were gentle, sweet, and wishful. I also saw the longing and unfulfilled desire. That might be my imagination, right? Like the images I saw when my head throbbed. I can’t imagine Silas being soft towards me. That’s beyond imagination and surely will not happen. Given his cold demeanor towards me, his being affectionate was an impossible notion.

SILAS’ POV I scrutinized my wife, gazing up and down her figure as she stood at the bathroom doorway. Upon witnessing my shirtless presence on the bed, it was evident from her trembling and fearful demeanor that my sudden appearance had caught her off guard. She wasn’t expecting me home this late at night. I was surprised by the stunning and slender body concealed beneath that wedding dress. Clad only in a small bath towel, her body remained hidden, and her damp hair cascaded down her neck and found its way into the bosom, snugly enveloped by the towel.

I spoke evenly, "Silas, the past is the past. I'm married to Levi now, and all I want is a peaceful life with him." Silas' eyes widened in disbelief. "But you barely know him! There's no way you would fall for him—not in this short of a time. You're just trying to get back at me! "The day I got married… It was you, wasn't it? Out of jealousy, you had the wedding gown and tiara taken away. Do you have any idea how humiliated I was?"

It was the first time they had ever heard her reply to anything. “That’s enough, she was at most curious. If you are going to eat, do it quietly,” his father, Henry, interjected. His mother seemed to find his words funny. If one did not look clearly, they would have thought that she was sneering. “Are you blind?” Lilac asked and Henry paused in shock. “What did you say?” he asked. “It seems you are deaf too,” Lilac answered, and Jason heard his grandmother gasp, “You are calling me deaf?” Henry asked.

I stood still in the center of the abandoned village, its silence louder than any scream. "Is anyone here?!" I cried out, my voice sharp and panicked, echoing across the empty space. Nothing. Time had stopped. The rain had ceased, frozen mid-fall, and darkness crept in from all directions, heavy and unnatural. Then—footsteps.
