Voices began to crackle through the air—distorted, terrified screams from the Southern territories. "The nurseries!" a Southern commander shrieked, his face twisting in horror as he clutched his stone. "The infants born during the Eclipse... their eyes! They are turning purple!" A collective gasp ripped through the valley. The Alphas scrambled to their feet, their discipline evaporating in an instant. They ignored the King. They ignored the ruins of the giant. Their only focus was the voices coming from their homes.

I whispered, my head resting against his chest. "We did more than that, Elara," Silas said, his voice thick with a dark triumph. He looked out over the battlefield, where the Sentinels were howling at the moon, their star-silver collars reflecting the stars. "We showed them that the Sun can be eclipsed. And now, the South will know what it’s like to live in the long night." I closed my eyes, the black veins on my arms finally settling back into the skin.
