Southern Book Club Novels & Stories

I’m trying to be patient, but it’s harder than I’d like to admit. Two months ago, I opened my bookstore, and it’s been incredible. Twice a week, we host book clubs, and I’ve made it a point to bring one of the guys with me to each session. It’s hilarious watching their faces as we dive into the discussions. The women seem to enjoy it too—something about discussing steamy romance scenes with a bit of eye candy in the room. The door finally creaks open, and I sit up straighter as they walk in.

They entered, drawn in by the aroma of well-loved books and the faint rustling of pages turning. A pleasant bookseller approached them as they surveyed the shelves, their eyes wide with wonder. "Are you looking for anything in particular?" she said, her voice kind and welcoming. Lucian grinned. "We're open to surprises; what do you recommend?" The bookseller's eyes twinkled with enthusiasm. "Ah, then, let me introduce you to our Book Club, which meets here every week to engage in fascinating literary discussions, and you're welcome to join them." With a lot of time left, our group decided to head back to the hotel earlier and have extra free time. Everyone disappears the moment we arrive at the hotel and finally, Ms. Wilson and the tour guide leave us. With spare time on my hands, I ran upstairs to grab my book and run back down to sit on the couch. The thought of being able to snuggle up into my book warms my stomach as I wait for Leah to get back. My thoughts get lost into the book, and slowly, I take no notice of what's going on behind me. I've fallen deep into the world of the South during the Civil War. There was too much going on in the book that I found myself vigorously flipping through the pages.

Another XY chromosome in attendance was a young lad that looked like he'd been forced to be here. Three men among six women, discussing an erotica book. At the risk of sounding like Sawyer, this really did look like one of those cults that adjourned with an orgy. "Shall we start?" My god mother broke the tension almost as if she could read my thoughts aloud. "I'm just going to start by thanking Zade Cutler for showing up to our book club. I didn't know a man of your...ehm..caliber was interested in books" I smiled. A smile that had the Smith women swooning and had Claire rolling her eyes with disinterest.

He'd never had a woman occupy his every thought, but he liked thinking about her, it made him smile. Cheif Onapuruagu was coming to speak with Mrs Claudia. He wanted to know if she had shown up for coffee. God knew he should have been sleeping, but he needed to talk to someone. He froze at the sound of Claudia's voice. "I should be in LA tomorrow morning," Mrs Claudia seemed so decided and certain. "I have accomplished what I came to do in Dirty South, it's time to go back to LA." Within a minute, Chief Onapuruagu was inside the bedroom, glaring suspiciously at his mum. What could this mean? He thought to himself, could his mother really kill her blood?

Pearl yells at the closed door and Gwen giggles. Slowly the other women file in. I load up a bowl of potato soup that Julie brought. She even fried up some bacon to sprinkle on top and I think I've died and gone to Heaven. Gwen's new recipe for spinach dip feels like an orgasm in my mouth and I decide to ask Ev to do every book club with me forever, if only for the snacks. I listen as they talk about the book. We're on the downward swing of it now, the main conflict resolved with only the aftermath of the battle left to go through. It's a more emotional part of the story and I'm surprised Pearl even read it.

“Before you decide to give up on the story, you should read the next two books in the series.” “Where did you get those from?” Jo asked quietly as she looked at the small stack of books. “Probably the same place that you got that one. Little library up on the second floor.” “Yeah.” She admitted and gave a little blush. “That’s my library.” “I thought that it might be Shelby’s book.” “Nope. Shell is a card-carrying member of the audiobook and podcast book club. I’m pretty sure that if she had to actually read something not for school, she’d probably burst into flames.”

Hazel enjoys getting to know all of them, and she feels like she's making a difference in their lives, one book at a time. Hazel's favorite part of her job is hosting the weekly book club. It's a small group of about eight people, but they're passionate about reading and always have fascinating insights to share. One of the members, a woman named Margaret, is especially enthusiastic. She always brings snacks for the group and keeps everyone engaged in lively discussion. One day, Margaret comes in with a big smile on her face. "You'll never believe what happened!" she says. "I was at the grocery store, and I ran into a famous author!

"Billy? Huh, oh yeah, I'm fine. Yes. Lunch today, right." "Good, can't wait." She smiled again and left him with his jaw hanging open and a deer in the headlights gaze. When she got back to her desk, she sent Nicki a text asking him if he wanted to meet her for dinner and they could maybe go over their book club reading together. They met on Thursdays every other week for their book club. Most of the time, she got through half the book before she gave up and read the last chapter. Nicki would fill her in on the way over to the meeting what parts she was missing.

DIXIE THUMBED THROUGH THE book, the group's conversation washing over her. Book club night usually energized her. It was a bi-monthly opportunity to be in a room full of women she counted as friends. They'd selected a paranormal book this time, and though Dixie had tried she just couldn't get into it. Hear head and heart were stuck in the real world and no amount of sexy werewolf shifter could fix that. Shonda leaned over and gestured at Dixie's plate. "Are you done with your dinner?"
